How it works
What an industrial check valve does
A check valve — also called a non-return valve — lets fluid pass in one direction and closes on its own when flow stops or reverses. No actuator, no operator: the flow itself opens the valve, and gravity, a spring or back-pressure closes it.
That simple job protects expensive equipment. A check valve on a pump discharge stops the pump spinning backwards when it trips; on a boiler feed line it keeps steam and hot water out of the feed system; on a pipeline it holds the line pressure when a compressor stops.

Is a check valve the same as a non-return valve?
Yes. “Check valve” and “non-return valve” (NRV) describe the same function: a self-acting valve that lets fluid flow in one direction and closes automatically to stop reverse flow.
